At Kismet Park Primary School, we believe in empowering students to become leaders within their school community. Our leadership program provides meaningful opportunities for students to develop confidence, responsibility, and a sense of civic duty.
Students attend the GRIP Student Leadership Conference to develop their skills and bring fresh ideas back to the school community. JSC members regularly present to School Council to share student perspectives.
Our student leaders model our school values of Be Your Best, Resilience, Respect, and Kindness. Students who consistently display these values are recognised through programs like the Kismet Park 50 Club.
Our Buddies Program, based on the Alannah & Madeline Foundation’s Better Buddies framework, pairs senior students with younger peers to build meaningful connections across the school.
Year 5 and 6 students are matched with Prep and Year 1 students as their buddies for the year. They participate in shared activities in the classroom and playground, helping younger students feel safe, cared for, and connected.
Buddy systems teach children the important values of respect, care, valuing difference, responsibility, friendship, and including others. This helps combat bullying and builds resilience — a protective factor for children if they experience hardship.
Lunchtime clubs form a powerful part of our whole-school strategy to support social inclusion and wellbeing. They help build student engagement and social skills for all students.
Lunch Clubs are particularly appreciated by students who find navigating the playground a little overwhelming. Some students prefer activities that are guided by a teacher, while others may find it difficult to initiate or maintain friendships.
Friendships blossom between children who find a common interest, and who they may not otherwise have met. Bringing students together from all year levels also supports buddy friendships and broader social groups.
Students can participate in a number of lunchtime clubs daily. These activities allow students to develop new interests and connect with peers in a supportive environment. The activities are organised and supervised by staff who generously share their expertise to make Lunch Clubs a fun and valuable experience.
Clubs provide a space for students to enjoy an alternative activity during their lunchtime play, offering something for everyone.
Starting school is a major milestone. Our comprehensive transition program is designed to help children and families feel confident, prepared, and excited about beginning their learning journey at Kismet Park.
Future Preps attend multiple orientation sessions during Term 4, giving them the opportunity to:
Parents complete a survey to help us understand each child’s stage of development. Teachers conduct assessments in Literacy and Numeracy during a dedicated interview session, ensuring we can plan an inclusive curriculum from day one.
In the first few weeks, Prep students play at different times to the rest of the school to build confidence. Classroom rules, playground safety, Stranger Danger, and Fire Safety are explicitly taught. Our Home Shared Reading program begins mid-Term 1 once students have settled in.
At Kismet Park we believe that high academic achievement holds equal weight to nurturing student wellbeing. Our Respectful Relationships program builds the social and emotional skills students need to thrive.
We instil respect and an inclusive culture through supporting our students to adopt restorative practices to improve and repair relationships. We build positive relationships through a Restorative Approach that aims to create a calm environment where issues are dealt with in a reflective, emotionally intelligent, and relaxed manner.
We acknowledge one another’s strengths and talents, taking time to listen and communicate. Our values of Be Your Best, Resilience, Respect, and Kindness are woven into daily school life.
At Kismet Park Primary School, we recognise that literacy is not just about reading and writing — it’s about empowering students to navigate the world around them with confidence and competence.
We have developed a comprehensive approach to literacy instruction that encompasses the Big 6 in Reading, incorporated into our daily English block:
Our teachers tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, providing targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities as needed. Each student has their own reading and writing goal and regularly confers with their classroom teacher in both one-on-one and small group settings.
At Kismet Park, our numeracy program is grounded in the Victorian Curriculum Mathematics framework, developing confident and capable mathematicians from Prep to Year 6.
Our structured approach uses a workshop model with explicit teaching, guided practice, and independent application. Key features include:
Common assessment tasks are planned for each unit of work, including open-ended investigations. Teachers use data to make decisions about the next level of learning, ensuring every student is appropriately challenged and supported. Math journals transition from whole-class in Term 1 to individual journals in Terms 2–4 for Years 3–6.
Inquiry at Kismet Park develops the skills of critical thinking, creativity, and deep understanding across the areas of Science, Geography, History, and Economics.
The goal at Kismet Park is to develop a thinking culture which encourages children to become autonomous, life-long learners. Thinking skills empower the learner with strategies to engage in analytical, creative, and critical thinking and to apply these skills in everyday life.
Our structured Inquiry approach ensures that learning is engaging, relevant, and significant for every student.
Students at Kismet Park receive weekly specialist lessons across four key areas, enriching learning beyond the core curriculum from Prep to Year 6.
Based on the Victorian Curriculum dimensions of Explore and Express Ideas, Visual Arts Practices, Present and Perform, and Respond and Interpret. Students explore painting, printing, collage, construction, modelling, drawing, threads and textiles, as well as digital graphic presentations.
An exciting program covering drama, music, media technology, and public speaking. Students develop skills in devising, scripting, directing, performing, and evaluating their own performances. Music includes instrumental theory and practical skills. The highlight is the biannual whole school production with professional staging, lighting, and sound.
Students develop Fundamental Motor Skills through a variety of games, exercises, and sports, encouraging an active, healthy lifestyle and a lifelong love of physical activity. Interschool sport and swimming programs complement the weekly PE lessons.
Weekly lessons from Prep to Grade 6 develop language skills through interactive activities including language games, role-playing, and cultural activities. From Grade 3, students begin mastering hiragana, one of the fundamental Japanese writing systems.
At Kismet Park we understand that technology forms a vital part of a high quality, fully rounded education in the 21st century. ICT is incorporated across the curriculum in all learning areas.
Through the incorporation of ICT, the Victorian Curriculum expects students will:
At Kismet Park we aim to use ICT authentically — the task being completed is the priority and the technology exists to support the student’s learning.
At Kismet Park, we understand the importance of providing tailored support to every learner, whether they need a little extra help or are ready to soar beyond grade-level expectations.
Kismet Park runs an intervention program in accordance with the government’s Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI). The focus is on foundational skills of reading and numeracy.
Our aim is for students to feel confident, supported, and to meet their individualised learning goals.
For students ready to go beyond grade-level expectations, we offer exciting extension opportunities. Students undertake both collaborative and individualised problem-solving tasks that aim to stimulate growth and ignite curiosity.
Through our extension programs, we aim to inspire a lifelong love of learning and equip students with the skills needed to excel in a rapidly changing world.
In an increasingly digital world, Kismet Park is committed to helping students navigate online spaces safely and responsibly. Our cyber safety education is embedded across the curriculum.
We encourage families to continue the conversation about online safety at home. Helpful resources include:
Talk to your children about ensuring they use only the online tools recommended by their school, and set aside time to check in on their digital activities regularly.
Kismet Park Primary School Council is the governing body of our school, working in partnership with the principal to set the strategic direction and oversee key policies.
School Council is made up of elected parent representatives and staff members, including the principal. Elections are held annually, with casual vacancies filled as they arise. Parents interested in filling a vacancy can send an expression of interest to the school office.
School Council meets regularly throughout the year. Junior School Council representatives attend to share student voice and their achievements. Meeting minutes and updates are shared via the school newsletter.
Our Parents & Community Association (PCA) is a voluntary group of parents and teachers whose activities include the organisation of social events and fundraising activities.
Working in cooperation with the principal and School Council, the PCA’s aims and objectives are to:
The PCA welcomes all parents and carers. Whether you can help regularly or just occasionally, your contribution makes a real difference. Contact the school office for meeting dates and upcoming events.
